In 1876, Juan Lopez Diaz founded the Juan Lopez cigar brand in Havana. Juan Lopez became known for producing cigars full of a complex blend of cedar, spice, and earth flavors. However, in 1908 Lopez passed production to his heirs until they sold it to the Sociedad Cosme Del Peso y Cia in 1918. At one point, the brand was also known as Flor de Juan Lopez.
Juan Lopez cigars stand out because they are one of the few brands left that make all their cigars completely by hand. Their tobacco is still sourced in Cuba to this day and manufactured by Habanos S.A.
One of their most popular cigars is the Juan Lopez seleccion No.2. This embodies those classic Juan Lopez flavors and aromas of cedar, hay, and espresso. In the second third of the cigar, these flavors become more complex with added notes of mango and pineapple.
Juan Lopez has a relatively limited catalog compared to other cigar houses; however, they are often selected for regional editions that are well-received by the cigar smoking community. Although Juan Lopez cigars are a little more difficult to find than other brands, the smoking experience their cigars offer is definitely worth the search.
