Winston Churchill is said to have done his best work late at night, puffing away on a cigar. The Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour Toro is an homage to the man and his habits. The deep dark chocolate Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper has a rich oily sheen, a fitting leaf to encase the single malt Scotch barrel-aged long filler. Despite the name, the cigar is not a Churchill format but the smaller, stouter Toro, measuring in at 6” with a ring gauge of 54.
This hand-rolled cigar should take you about an hour to smoke. The initial cold draw will give off aromas of mesquite and vanilla. Once the dark, veiny cigar meets fire, the deep flavors come out. The first half has notes of spices, stone fruits, and wood, deepening into black coffee, leather, and bitter chocolate tones in the second half.
This cigar is strong, with bold flavors. It is best enjoyed by a seasoned smoker looking for the punch of barrel-aged tobacco but in a shorter format.
